Using the Shadowrun Rogues Lineup NPC Deck

Quick answer

Use the Shadowrun Rogues Lineup deck to quickly generate NPCs or pre-generated player characters for your Sixth World campaign, saving prep time and adding variety.

How to use the Rogues Lineup deck

1. Draw a card for a random NPC: When you need an unexpected contact, ally, or obstacle, draw one card from the deck. The character's metatype and archetype give you instant personality and capability. Common mistake: drawing multiple cards and trying to combine them, which slows the game. Stick to one card per NPC. One card per NPC keeps the game moving.
2. Select a card for a pre-generated player character: If a player wants a quick start or a backup character, let them choose a card that matches their preferred archetype. The deck includes a range of abilities, so they can find a fit. Common mistake: assuming the deck covers every possible build. It does not, so treat it as a starting point, not a limitation. Let players pick, but allow minor customization.
3. Use the deck for campaign planning: Before a session, draw a few cards and build a short scenario around the characters. Their abilities suggest hooks, conflicts, or jobs. Common mistake: overplanning. The deck is designed for improvisation, so keep the prep light. Let the cards inspire, not dictate, your story.
